Carl Hansen & Son
Built on a belief that iconic design is a combination of simplicity, beauty and functionality, Carl Hansen & Søn furniture invites you to become part of a proud tradition of distinctive craftsmanship with the highest quality materials. This is Carl Hansen & Søn.
For over 100 years, Carl Hansen & Søn has specialised in creating beautiful furniture designs crafted to the highest standards.
Since 1908, when cabinetmaker Carl Hansen opened a small furniture workshop on the Danish island of Funen, the eponymous brand has held two philosophies at the core of its furniture creation: an uncompromising dedication to excellent craftsmanship and a duty to reinvent and refine the concept of modern design alongside exceptional designers. To this day, the brand upholds its commitment to world-class design, still producing its pieces in Denmark to the highest standards using a combination of traditional techniques and new technologies. Carl Hansen & Søn, now helmed by Knud Erik Hansen, the third-generation leader of the still family-owned business, has expanded to become an international presence whose timeless, modern furniture can be found across the world.
By combining traditional woodworking techniques with innovations in contemporary technology, Carl Hansen & Søn have developed an enduring collection of the best, most iconic modern furniture designs all under one roof. Led by a respect and passion for craftsmanship, their furniture is crafted with the finest materials and a commitment to sustainability, made in collaboration with some of the world’s best designers. One such collaborator is Hans J. Wegner, a partner who has deeply influenced the DNA and evolution of Carl Hansen & Søn’s stunning pieces since their first partnership in 1949. Following his first successful furniture series, including the now-iconic Wishbone chair, Wegner emerged as a driving force behind the international success of the Danish Modern design movement, with his pieces widely regarded as collector’s items by many around the world. Collaborations with mid-century design masters as well as modern Danish visionaries have allowed Carl Hansen & Søn to uphold the core principles of simplicity, functionality and craftsmanship in all of their furniture pieces.
