Bathroom lighting ideas

Before finalising your bathroom lighting purchase, there are a few key factors you may want to consider first. When selecting the perfect bathroom lighting, you should begin by assessing the type of light fixture that best suits your space - taking into account things such as decor style, room size and the zone in the bathroom the bathroom light is for. For small bathrooms, a minimalist bathroom wall light may suffice. However, larger spaces with limited natural light may benefit from the placement of multiple lights from our bathroom lighting collection. For the best bathroom light ideas please do not hesitate to contact us.

Another important aspect of bathroom lighting is the colour temperature of your bulb. For bathrooms, we recommend choosing a light with a colour temperature between 2700K and 3000K, as this will create a warm and inviting ambience. However, if you prefer a slightly brighter and more energetic atmosphere, you can instead opt for a light with a higher colour temperature of 4000K.

We have lots of bathroom lighting ideas, especially around the mirror area. A well-lit mirror not only makes it easier to get ready in the mornings, but also adds a touch of luxury to your designer bathroom lighting. You can choose from a range of mirror lights depending on your personal preferences, including:

Backlit mirrors
Illuminated mirrors
Vanity lights

Dimmer switches can also be an excellent addition to your bathroom . These light switches allow you to adjust the brightness according to your mood, creating a relaxing ambiance for a soak in the tub. Additionally, dimmer switches can help save energy and extend the lifespan of your light bulbs, adding multiple benefits to the mix.

The decision really is yours, given the extensive choice available within our bathroom lighting collection.

What IP Rating Do I Need for My Bathroom Lights?

One of the most important factors to consider when searching for new bathroom lighting ideas is the IP (Ingress Protection) rating required.

An IP rating indicates the level of protection an electrical device has against water and dust. Choosing a light fixture with the appropriate IP rating for your bathroom is essential, as it’s a legal necessity. For example, if you are installing lighting in a shower area or directly above a bathtub, you will need a light with an IP rating of at least IP65. This ensures that the fixture is protected against water splashes and steam, making it particularly important for safety reasons.

Several bathroom lighting zones exist that require different IP ratings:

Zone 0 - Zone 0 areas are classed as being directly within your bath or shower. These areas have the highest required IP rating of IP67 and all electrical fittings must have a maximum strength of 12V.
Zone 1 - Zone 1 is the area above the bath or shower, counted up to a maximum height of 2.25m from the floor. A minimum IP rating of IP45 is required for zone 1, although we would still recommend using an IP65 light.
Zone 2 - Zone 2 stretches up to 0.6m outside the perimeter of your bath/shower, up to a total height of 2.25 metres from your bathroom floor. Your sink also falls within zone 2 (extending 60cm around the taps), where an IP rating of IP44 is necessary.
Areas outside these zones in your bathroom do not have a specific IP rating that has to be adhered to. However, it's still good practice to have lights with a high IP rating within your home, even if the risk of an incident is low.

We can also provide a range of interesting furniture items for you, enabling you to kit out your home in style.

As well as the perfect bath light, we offer lighting for all areas of the home, whether you require industrial lighting or a perhaps a selection of brass lights?

Bathroom light bulbs

We often get asked if specific bathroom light bulbs are required. As long as the light fitting itself meets regulation you do not require specific bathroom light bulbs. A standard light bulbused with your bathroom light is totally fine. There isn't any specific bathroom light bulb on the market.

Vanity lights

Our selection of bathroom wall lights offers lots of options for use above a bathroom vanity unit. A stylish vanity light will sit elegantly either side of a bathroom mirro and give even, bright illumination directly to the face. Overhead lighting near the bathroom mirror is a no no. Instead select a vanity light that matches the metalwork of your taps and fits in with your style. Vanity lights generally have opal or ridged glass so that they can provide bright illumination without the glare.

Lights for over a bathroom mirror

Rather than either side of a mirror, in smaller bathrooms and shower rooms it is often better to have a single light over the mirror. Bathroom lights for mirrors come in many designs and styles and we are to help you. Lights for over a bathroom mirror need to throw light out but also slightly down and so differ from vanity lights slightly in their design.
